Keys: Firmament Bible Changes
This is setup to be viewed on a computer. It is 3 columns wide to compare KJV vs. NIV Then Comments
Comment on Bibles: I am not making any claim of which Bible is best. I am comparing the two Bibles that I own and have discovered these differences. It makes me wonder how much has changed from the Original writings to the King James 1611 which I typically read from. Here I am comparing the new King James to the New International Version
King James Bible
GENESIS 1:15
GENESIS 1:16
GENESIS 1:17
And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,
NIV Bible
GENESIS 1:1
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
GENESIS 1:6
And God said, “Let there be a vault between the waters to separate water from water.”
GENESIS 1:7
So God made the vault and separated the water under the vault from the water above it. And it was so.
GENESIS 1:8
God called the vault “sky.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day.
GENESIS 1:9
And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.” And it was so.
GENESIS 1:9
And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.” And it was so.
GENESIS 1:14
And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years,
GENESIS 1:15
and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so.
GENESIS 1:16
God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars.
GENESIS 1:17
God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth,
GENESIS 1:20
And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky.”
Comments
GENESIS 1:1
The first verse of the Bible. Why change heaven to heavens? To me that makes it plural and abstract.
GENESIS 1:6
KJV is more descriptive to setup a picture of Heaven and Earth. NIV introduces a vault, why?
GENESIS 1:7
KJV tells you paints a picture of dividing all the waters of earth. NIV introduces a vault. Notice they made heavens plural, but removed the “s” from water. Why?
GENESIS 1:8
God called the Firmament Heaven.
In verse 1, NIV made Heaven plural and now they removed it.
GENESIS 1:9
Heaven again is removed and the visual of water above heaven is also removed. The change from Land to Ground is for a reason that I am not going into here.
GENESIS 1:9
Heaven again is removed and the visual of water above heaven is also removed. The change from Land to Ground is for a reason that I am not going into here.
GENESIS 1:14
Again Heaven is removed and notice seasons is changed to sacred times.
If I try to give all the answers here, some will reject it. Think critically, ask questions.
GENESIS 1:15-17
The Sun is the Greater Light. The Moon is the Lesser Light, what if it isn’t made of rock? God set the Sun and the Moon and the Stars in the Firmament of Heaven with waters above it.
The NIV is vague and doesn’t paint a picture of what is.
Ask yourself why was this done?
What if it wasn’t done in your best interest? Ask God and listen to your own inner voice.
GENESIS 1:20
Use your discernment. Think of which is more descriptive of what a Loving Father would want you to know.

This is closer to the visual description of the Original intent from the Bible.
For those who have eyes to see and ears to hear let him hear.
This would be a good time to get the message in MATTHEW 13
Firmament continued beyond GENESIS Chapter 1
EZEKIEL 1:22-28
22And the likeness of the firmament upon the heads of the living creature was as the colour of the terrible crystal, stretched forth over their heads above.
23And under the firmament were their wings straight, the one toward the other: every one had two, which covered on this side, and every one had two, which covered on that side, their bodies.
24 And when they went, I heard the noise of their wings, like the noise of great waters, as the voice of the Almighty, the voice of speech, as the noise of an host: when they stood, they let down their wings.
25 And there was a voice from the firmament that was over their heads, when they stood, and had let down their wings.
26 And above the firmament that was over their heads was the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire stone: and upon the likeness of the throne was the likeness as the appearance of a man above upon it.
27And I saw as the colour of amber, as the appearance of fire round about within it, from the appearance of his loins even upward, and from the appearance of his loins even downward, I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and it had brightness round about.
28 As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake.
PSALMS 19:1
For the director of music. A psalm of David. The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
PSALMS 150:1
Praise the LORD . [a] Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens.
EZEKIEL 1:22-28
22Spread out above the heads of the living creatures was what looked something like a vault, sparkling like crystal, and awesome. 23Under the vault their wings were stretched out one toward the other, and each had two wings covering its body.
24When the creatures moved, I heard the sound of their wings, like the roar of rushing waters, like the voice of the Almighty, [b] like the tumult of an army. When they stood still, they lowered their wings. 25Then there came a voice from above the vault over their heads as they stood with lowered wings. 26Above the vault over their heads was what looked like a throne of lapis lazuli, and high above on the throne was a figure like that of a man. 27I saw that from what appeared to be his waist up he looked like glowing metal, as if full of fire, and that from there down he looked like fire; and brilliant light surrounded him. 28Like the appearance of a rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day, so was the radiance around him. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD . When I saw it, I fell facedown, and I heard the voice of one speaking.
EZEKIEL 10:1
I looked, and I saw the likeness of a throne of lapis lazuli above the vault that was over the heads of the cherubim.
DANIEL 12:3
Those who are wise [a] will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever.
PSALMS 19:1
The Firmament reveals the Glory of God because the Sun, Moon and Stars are in it. And work together as a clock for Days and Seasons. Since they have separated skies and heavens, the message is lost.
PSALMS 150:1
This one isn’t as objectionable, yet still something lost.
EZEKIEL 1:22-28
There are several references to the Firmament, so I included all versus from 1:22 on. At this point, you can compare for yourselves. Ask yourself: Which makes more sense? Which one gives a clearer picture? Again use your discernment and trust your inner voice.

EZEKIEL 10:1
Firmament is a specific word that describes Heaven with the Sun, Moon and Stars contained within and waters above. A vault is abstract and describes some type of container. Message lost in NIV.
DANKIEL 12:3
Remember that the Firmament was defined as having brightness in the KJV. In the NIV, the Heavens weren’t ever described as having any brightness. They separated “Heavens” and a vault.

HEBREWS 13:21
Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
